Reflecting on Teaching in a Classroom that is not your own...

As you all know I am not currently teaching so the lessson plan was definitely a struggle for me.  I felt very restricted in several aspects including the topic, what could be done in the lesson and classroom management skills.  I started my lesson I expected that the one advantage I would have is that I was a new face and the students would give me more respect and attention than what I had observed between the students and the cooperating teacher.  Unfortunately I was in for a surprise and had to quickly adapt to the classroom.
I know that this lesson was focused on 21st century literacies and I covered them to the best of my ability  in the situation; and had I had my own classroom this lesson would have been a lot different and incorporated more 21st century literacy skills.  With that said I feel that there is something more that I believe I got out of this experience and it related to my philosophy of education.  The overall belief in my philosophy is that a teacher must know her students; that  includes but not limited to their learning styles and background. This lesson further assured me that knowing the students is the key to a successful classroom. If you know the students you can prepare for their actions and reactions to activities (this includes responses); you will also have a stronger classroom management skill set if you know the students and they know you and what is expected of them.
